WHITE HOUSE 1950 Renovation Display Paperweight with Large Nail

Here is a wonderful plaque/paperweight made with original White House stones, a nail and wood with the bronze authentication plaque attached. These pieces were supplied by the Renovation Commission’s memento program during President Harry Truman’s ca. 1950 renovation of the White House. They were offered as “Kit No. 5”.

I have seen a few of these hand-crafted plaques over the years, but this is one of the nicest. The wood is original pine wood used in building the White House. One of the large stones is marble and the other is granite. The early square nail attached is the longest one I have seen coming out of this renovation. It measures about 3 1/8 inches across. Most other nails I have seen are about 1.25 or 2.5 inches long. The original bronze authentication plate is attached near the bottom. It reads “Original White House Material Removed in 1950” surrounding the Presidential seal. There is no hanger on the back, leading me to believe it was probably made as a desk display or paperweight. The total size is about 5.5 x 3.75 inches. Including the marble, it is about 1.5 inches thick. It has several tiny specks of old white paint on it that probably can be easily removed.

This is a beautiful and unique display of White House renovation material!

Also included is a signed COA from WhiteHouseRelics.com.
