Description

Construction of the President’s House, later known as the White House, began in 1792 under President George Washington. Completed in 1800, every President, since John Adams, has resided in this historic structure. During the War of 1812 the British forces invaded Washington and burned the White House. It was immediately rebuilt and has since been an important part of the history of the United States of America.

This canvas image depicts the ruins after the 1814 fire from an original watercolor painting by American artist George Munger. The piece of wood attached to the front is an actual piece of heart pine used in the rebuilding of the President’s House. The pine was removed during the well documented reconstruction of the White House under Pres. Truman in 1950. The wood was originally sold to the public as souvenirs by the Commission on the Renovation of the Executive Mansion. The original larger piece of wood, this small piece was cut from, was originally sold as “Kit No. 1 – Enough old pine to make a gavel”, has an authenticating bronze plaque.

The gallery wrapped canvas print measures 12 x 16 inches with a 1.25-inch image wrap around a wood frame. It is printed on a high-quality giclée, artist-quality canvas that features UV light protection. This beautiful piece is ready to hang. The engraved brass plate is directly under the piece of White House wood. The wood piece measures about 1.25 x 1.25 inches. A Certificate of Authenticity is attached to the back.

A beautiful historic display worthy of any location!
