Description
This candlestick was crafted by the National Lumber Manufactures Association using original Virginia Longleaf pine that supported the White House roof for 112 years. The original wood was removed during President Calvin Coolidge’s 1927 White House roof renovation.
The wood remaining after the renovation was auctioned off in 1928 and the National Association of Lumber manufacturers was the high bidder at $500 for a large quantity. From this wood was made candlesticks, gavels and blocks that were used to promote wood as a quality, long lasting building material.
This candlestick measures just over 7 inches high and 4 inches wide at the base. It is in beautiful original condition. The original certifying information label on the bottom is complete and not torn, which is rare on this piece. If there was a grading scale for this type of thing, I would give it a 9+.
This candlestick would be a beautiful addition to any White House relic collection!
Also included is a signed COA from WhiteHouseRelics.com.
